All
of the examples of my printed materials below were produced
for MMS
Education, one of the nation's
leading educational consulting, program development, marketing,
sales and data services organization.
PBS
Scientific American Frontiers
School Program Teachers'
Guides
I designed and produced fully illustrated
12- and 16-page magazine-style teaching guides that correlate
with the PBS television series, giving information and
classroom activities that explore the topics in the shows.
I created five guides per year for ten years which were
distributed to teachers nationally. Responsibilities included
page design and production, graphics and illustrations,
diagrams of scientific experiments, photo research and
purchasing, convention signage and flyers.
This series was a winner of multiple
awards, including Learning Magazine Teacher's Choice
Award, Endorsement by National Education Association (NEA)
and National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), the Educational
Press Association Distinguished Achievement Award, the Curriculum
Product News Top 100 Products Award and a Media & Methods
Awards Portfolio Winner.
Mid-Atlantic
Dairy Association
Responsibilities include
creating advertisements and postcards which promote programs
that educate food service directors,
nutrition educators, parents and students about how to
help improve the health of children in schools and lower
the rate of childhood obesity. One key ingredient is to
encourage schools to offer healthy alternatives to soda
and fruit drink, such as milk and other dairy products.
MDA is also promoting in-school breakfast programs.
When students have a healthy breakfast, they are more ready
to learn, have fewer behavior problems and achieve higher test
scores.

The
Field Museum of Chicago
Underground Adventure Educator
Guide
I
designed and produced this 145-page binder which includes
lesson plans, activities and worksheets for teachers to
use with their students before, during and after their
visit to the Underground Adventure exhibition at The
Field Museum. The activities in this
guide are separated by grade levels, with sections for
grades K-2, 3-5, and 6-8. The Underground Adventure explores
four key ideas regarding soil systems:
- Soil
is home to an incredible diversity of living things.
- Soil
organisms are connected to each other, to the inorganic components
of soil, and to the above-ground world.
- The functioning of
the Earth's life
support systems depends on maintaining these often fragile
connections.
- We, too, are connected to the soil. We affect
it and depend on it for survival.

dictionary and map reading skills. Kits include Thesaurus

Life's
Playbook Program (Verizon)
I created a portion
of this 148-page book; designed and produced an accompanying
16-page teachers' guide, plus convention signage and flyers.
The Life's Playbook program is based on personal
stories and insights from members of the Verizon Academic All-America
Hall of Fame. The book contains essays, surprising stories
and inspiring quotes from Hall of Fame members, as well as
"Time Out" quizzes, activities and self-analysis exercises
on topics such as stress management, leadership, mentors, burnout
prevention and much more.
FORTUNE
Magazine Education Program
Responsibilities
include designing and producing direct mail packages, including
brochures, order forms, outer envelopes, business
reply envelopes and postcards which promote the use of FORTUNE
Magazine as a tool for learning in the classroom. This nation-wide
program provides low-cost subscriptions to FORTUNE Magazine
for college students, plus resource materials for professors
to help them utilize the magazine in their classes.

"Only a Teacher" Discussion Guide
I
designed and produced a 16-page guide for teachers that correlates
to the three-part PBS television series and helps teachers
explore the topics in the series. The documentary series "Only
A Teacher" explores the diverse faces and many roles of
the American teacher from the 1830s to the present. In three
one-hour episodes, "Only A Teacher" presents historical
background about the teaching profession and how it developed,
while giving voice to contemporary teachers and their concerns.
The series plays out as a dialogue between past and present,
as teachers from different eras describe their dreams and setbacks,
challenges and achievements.
U.S.
Army and Army Reserve
Our American Heritage Series Teacher
Guide Kits
I designed
and produced a series of illustrated 4-page teachers' guides,
postcards, letters and outer envelopes. These were distributed
nationally and include topics relating to the history and
evolution of the United States, such as "Our Technology Heritage," "Our
Frontiers Heritage," "Our American Heritage," "Our People's Heritage" and "How
the GI Bill Changed Life in the United States."
Princeton,
NJ, Regional Chamber of Commerce
I
designed and produced these brochures, postcards and registration
forms to promote educator workshops. These workshops explore
a wide range of subject matter and help to keep professionals
in the Princeton, NJ, area up to date with what is happening
in their fields.
